The Space is a welcoming creative community within Elevate, where creativity and wellbeing come together. We believe creativity is about the journey of making. It's about taking time for yourself, exploring new ideas, experimenting with different materials and finding joy in the creative process, whatever the outcome. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced maker, you'll find a relaxed, supportive environment where everyone is welcome. Through workshops, creative groups, Space to Create sessions and community events, we offer opportunities to learn new skills, share ideas, connect with others and explore your creativity at your own pace. Along the way, you'll discover new techniques, enjoy demonstrations, experiment with a wide variety of materials and tools, and experience the freedom to play, create and make something uniquely your own. Our sessions are led by Kate, our Creative Director, alongside a wonderful team of Creative Collaborators, each bringing their own skills, passion and inspiration. Whether you're looking to learn a new craft, spend time with friends, connect with like-minded people or simply enjoy a few hours of creative escape, we'd love to welcome you to The Space.

ABOUT KATE: Kate has over 18 years of teaching experience across a wide range of creative disciplines, including jewellery-making, silver clay, polymer clay, mixed media, and more. She has a deep passion for working with her hands. She is continually inspired by colour, texture and the joy of experimentation – especially watching ideas evolve and unfold into unexpected outcomes. Before moving to Stonehaven, Kate co-ran a studio, workshop and shop with her mum in the south of England. Since 2014, she’s been building a creative community here through her classes and workshops, now run solely at The Space. You will be able to make a pendant and earring sets to take home or wear your creations on the day. You will learn techniques including how to use pliers to make loops, how to use the wire appropriately for your project & how to texture the rings to make your bespoke seaglass pendant and earring set. MACRAMÉ BOW NECKLACE

WHAT TO EXPECT: Join textile artist Sarah Grigg and learn how to create a beautiful statement bow necklace using recycled cotton rope. In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, you'll learn the multiple figure 8 knot - a traditional knot used by sailors and climbers that, when repeated and adapted, creates a striking bow shape perfect for wearable textile jewellery. Sarah will demonstrate each stage before guiding you through plenty of practice time, allowing you to gain confidence before creating your own finished necklace. Choose from a selection of colourful recycled cotton ropes to create a unique piece that reflects your own style. Once the fittings have been glued in place, you'll leave wearing (or taking home) your finished necklace. EXPERIENCE: This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, and no previous experience is necessary. Some hand dexterity is helpful for knot tying, but Sarah will guide you through each step at a relaxed pace. MATERIALS: All materials and equipment are provided during the workshop. A wide range of recycled cotton rope colours and necklace fittings are included, so all you need to bring is yourself. ABOUT SARAH: Returning to a childhood love of art, Sarah is a self-taught textile maker and designer who has been creating and selling her work under the name Ragged House for the past eight years. Alongside designing contemporary textile pieces, Sarah enjoys sharing her passion for making through workshops and community projects with both adults and children. SASHIKO INSPIRED EMBROIDERY -
NEW DESIGN

WORKSHOP INFO: £35 (2.5hrs) NEW SASHIKO DESIGN - Perfect for beginners or those who have tried Sashiko before and would like to try a new design and learn more techniques. Everything Included - tool & equipment for use on the day, materials & refreshments. In this workshop, we will learn embroidery techniques inspired by the Japanese art of Sashiko. We will work on a sampler piece, which can be made into a variety of items in your own time. There will be lots of samples to inspire future projects! In this class we will: * Discuss the history and uses of this technique * Learn about different fabrics and threads * Plot and mark out the stitching lines ready to sew * Practise simple stitches to create a beautiful geometric design * Understand how to start and finish our stitching * See examples of what our work can be turned into MATERIALS & EXPERIENCE: All materials, tools and equipment are provided for use during the workshop. AUTUMN TERM SNEAK PEAK...
WORKSHOP INFO: £38 (2hrs) CLAY MOO COO Everything Included - materials, glazing, firing & refreshments. This workshop will be a hands-on session to make your very own moo coo. Lois will guide you step-by-step through the hand building processes needed to create your one-of-a-kind little moo coo. Demonstrating & teaching you the techniques needed for your creation including pinchpot, shaping and joining. Plus how to texture & a colour to your Highland Moo Coo Included in the price is a transparent glaze. At the end of the session your coo will be taken to Lois's Studio to be bisque fired & glazed. They will then be returned to Elevate: The Space in approx. 5-6 weeks for collection. MATERIALS & EXPERIENCE: All materials, tools and equipment are provided for use during the workshop. ABOUT LOIS: Lois background is in sculpture, & has always loved creating with her hands. In more recent years she has focused on all things mud. She believes it’s an amazing material, so malleable and with a little coaxing you can let your creative imagination run wild.
