Kate Butterfield 1_edited.jpg

COURSE INFO: 3hr 10.30am - 1.30pm WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: This course is aimed at complete beginners. You do not need any previous art/craft/creative experience to do Art Journalling. If any of these statements are true for you then this course can help your creative journalling journey: Are you looking for a new hobby? Are you looking for a creative outlet? Are you looking to be creative without having to produce something specific like a finished piece of art? Have you got lots of supplies but feeling overwhelmed how to use them? Do you want to create but don’t know what to create? Do you have the fear of a blank page - just not knowing where to start? WHAT IS CREATIVE ART JOURNALLING: Creative Art Journalling, is simply being creative in a journal without the confines of artistic rules. Your journal is a space for experimenting, practicing and exploring all types of techniques and mixed media. Your journal is also a “safe space” for totally free self-expression without fear of the end result. You can focus and channel your creativity whilst allowing your thoughts, feeling and emotions onto the page. Journalling is all about the enjoyment of the journey and not the final product. You will soon see how creating your own journal can positivly impact on your wellbeing. WHAT WILL BE COVERED In this introductory workshop, we will start with the basics! Each week we will focus on different technique, methods or media/materials, to help build your skills and techniques to create pages in your journal. You will be guided step by step through each stage. All materials* will be supplied as well as refreshments. (*EXCEPT JOURNAL - see below) Each week you will need to bring your art journal, yourself and an open mind to being creative. Each week you will be given a suggestion for doing some journalling in between session if you have supplies at home. WHAT’S NEXT: After this course you will be invited to join the follow on course - MORE, Creative Art Journalling. There will also be Masterclass Workshops to indulge & immerse yourself in individual techniques, skills & differnt types of media etc. Or you could join our regular Journalling Play Session. COST: *** There are two prices*** £97 - 4 week Course WITHOUT Journal £119 - 4 week Course INCLUDING Journal If you choose to have a Journal INCLUDED - you will be provided with a Brand New Creative Journal - Approx 8” x 8” (Currently £27 on Amazon) If you choose to buy your own Journal - you will need to provide a quality mixed media journal. Remember that your journal needs to have thick pages as we will be using lots of layers, glue, paint, water and more! Therefore thin or poor quality paper will not work with these techniques. Once your place is booked I will share with you a link of a recommendation. Lets get this journalling journey started! ABOUT YOUR TUTOR KATE: Kate has been teaching for over 16years & still loves it. Kate is happy to impart her years of knowledge & experince to her pupils.

WORKSHOP INFO: £35 for the 2hr workshop Everything Inc: materials & tools for use on the day as well as refreshments, firing & glazing. This workshop is perfect for beginners and those wishing to gain more experience with hand building techniques. You will learn to make a handbuilt bowl using the mindful, ancient technique of Puki and hammer stone. Starting with a pinch pot then refining and enlarging it using a hammer stone and a curved base known as a Puki. Once made, you stamp your bowl on the inside with a decorative design of your choice. You will get to test these techniques on a smaller test bowl too. Nicola will then take your bowl to her studio, and glaze and fire it. At the end of the course, your work, a maximum of 2 pieces, each will be fired, glazed and ready for collection within approx. 4-5 weeks. You will be advised when your work is ready and collection will need to be organised from The Space, or for a small additional charge it can be posted out to you. All Material & Equipment supplied for your use on the day. Although you may wish to bring your own apron or an old shirt. ABOUT NICOLA: Is a self taught potter, living and working in Aberdeenshire. Nicola has always had a love of the outdoors. Nicola trained as an entomologist/ecologist. Moving to Scotland she became a freshwater ecologist, spending her days looking down a microscope. A change of career was needed to accommodate the demands of small children and two chronic illnesses. She had long done pottery as a hobby, so decided to turn professional and has never looked back. Now she creates handbuilt pottery from her home studio. Working without the use of a pottery wheel, her pieces reflect the imperfections and asymmetry of nature. No two pieces are alike. The microscopic details of diatoms, algae, and insects are reflected in her work via hand carved textures in the surface. ** Please Note ** We need a minimum of 6 to run the workshop. WORKSHOP INFO: £55 (4hrs) Everything Included - tools & equipment for use on the day, materials & refreshments. Peg loom weaving, sometimes called ‘Viking weaving’ is a method of hand weaving. In this workshop you will be using a peg loom & prepared sheep’s fleece to make your weaving. The weaving would make a lovely rug, seat pad or pet mat. We will use washed sheep’s fleece from various native British sheep breeds, including rare breeds. The fleeces have different textures (smooth, curly), are naturally variable colours (undyed) and we will use some carded fleece also. Each person will have their own loom to work on during the workshop. You will learn all the process from start to finish to create a complete weaving. This will include how to string the peg loom, weave with different fleece textures and how to finish your woven piece with a robust knotted finish. N.B Although the sheep’s fleeces are washed, some lanolin remains. If you have an allergy to lanolin you can wear gloves or this workshop might not be for you. *** Please Note *** We require a minimum of 5 to run this workshop. No refunds available. There is no age limit for learning a new skill or hobby! Lino cutting tools are very sharp so unfortunately, we can NOT offer to under 12years old. ABOUT KATY: Katy absolutely loves teaching lino cutting and printing workshops. Her favourite part is seeing how delighted everyone is with what they produce! Art has always been a big part of her life. She was born and brought up on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The beauty of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland have inspired my art work, and one of her best sellers is actually a simple drawing of the home she grew up in. She is also very inspired by the body positivity movement and likes to have a self-care message within my art work. Lino printing has become her go-to de-stress and hobby.

  • Textile design with soul: handmade clothing, book covers, cushions & more

  • Mixed media & jewellery, featuring handmade polymer clay beads and bold, expressive designs.

But we’re not just here to show, we’re here to share.

  • Expect live demos throughout the week
